The Challenge
Many young women especially those that are first generation are unaware about the college process. Cultural barriers exist that may prevent families from supporting their children when it is time to pick the correct track of higher education for them. There also may be a language barrier for many parents to learn about financial aid and the safety of their loved ones. This results in missed opportunities for both the students and their families.
The Solution
The Rising Moxie Conference is a full-day high school conference designed for high school girls and their parents to be introduced to the higher education process, held by Be Moxie and Latinas for Higher Education, both non-profit organizations. Their objective of this conference was to share their wealth of knowledge and expertise with these young women, helping them avoid the many pitfalls ahead while educating their parents about the support their daughters to be successful. Topics include women empowerment, finding your dream school, college 101, financial aid, and more.
